What to Expect from Your LAWWA Team

At Lake Area Waste Water Association, we deliver expert wastewater management designed to remove stress, reduce liability, and protect your property for the long term. As a 501(c)(12) cooperative utility, we partner with homeowners, HOAs, and small businesses to manage every aspect of wastewater treatment—safely, affordably, and in full compliance with regulatory standards.

Our team includes certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators, Engineers, and Laboratory Technicians who oversee the daily operations of each facility. We also work hand-in-hand with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure every system meets or exceeds the highest environmental and safety standards.

Skilled Wastewater Treatment

Our four-stage process ensures safe, thorough treatment of wastewater from start to finish:

  • Pretreatment – Removes damaging debris like wipes, grit, and non-dissolvables that can clog or break systems.
  • Primary Treatment – Separates sludge and eliminates fats, oils, and grease.
  • Secondary Treatment – Removes detergents, cleaning agents, paint, and organic waste. Microorganisms are removed if necessary.
  • Tertiary Treatment – Improves effluent quality through filtration, disinfection, and nutrient removal so it can be safely returned to the environment.

Infrastructure Upgrades & Development

We help Members improve or expand existing wastewater systems to increase capacity, meet evolving effluent standards, and reduce long-term operational costs. Our team evaluates each system’s current performance and recommends tailored upgrades that maximize efficiency and reliability. When a system is too outdated or no longer effective, we collaborate with Members to design and develop new high-performance facilities using advanced treatment technologies—ensuring sustainable service for years to come.

Z

Eco-Smart Wastewater Disposal

We safely return treated water to the environment. As administrators for Members’ National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, we ensure that each system operates in a way that protects public health and the environment.

Z

Laboratory Collection & Testing

In partnership with Total Water Laboratories, a nationally certified wastewater lab, we conduct detailed environmental testing of both drinking water and wastewater to ensure safety and compliance.

Z

Compliance Oversight & Regulatory Reporting

We handle your NPDES permit, from monitoring to reporting, so you stay compliant without the paperwork. Our relationship with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources helps ensure smooth inspections and support when needed.
